Mechanical design and engineering industry

The mechanical design and engineering industry have increased challenges due to the rise in energy consumption, new liquid and solid fuels and stricter environmental responsibility. The production and use of energy is strongly depending on reduced carbon dioxide emissions.

New environmental policies favor the utilization of domestic fuels and the possibility of using better combustion techniques increasing the share of biofuels i.e. wood origin fuels, landfill gases and biodiesel in energy production. At the same time direct mass combustion of waste has increased together with traditional combined heat and power (CHP) production. In 2010, 22% of all municipal waste produced in Finland, over 0,5 Mt, was burned in CHP and incineration power plants. (source: Statistics Finland)

Labtium's services

For the energy industry, as a part of selling products, there are cleaner fuelgas, maximum percentage of CO₂ trade free electricity and useful by-products (besides of main products electricity and heat). Using various kinds of solid and liquid fuels is challenging the traditional boiler technologies and fuel analyses.

Our customers in mechanical design and engineering industry are fluidized bed and other boiler manufacturers, producers of pyrolysis and gasification techniques, and diesel engine manufacturers. Other customers in energy industry sector are forest industry, biofuel producers and clean technology producers.

We are glad to serve you with characterization of fuels, ashes, corrosion samples, trouble shooting samples and recovery samples of pulping industry. We do quantitative anion and metal analyses of emission measurement particle samples and absorption solutions.

Our services include all the analytical needs of raw materials of steel production, by-products and environmental performance.

Some of our typical services for the mechanical design and engineering industry are:

  • Raw material testing
  • Product quality control
  • Conduct analysis for the placement of industrial by-products and wastes, and draw up utilization plans
  • Special analytics and research, e.g. we have the largest selection of elements covering almost the whole array of periodic table
  • Environmental performance, we conduct analytics and monitoring based on the Finnish government statutes 591/2006 and 202/2006 including water, soil and sediment samples, bio-indicators and aerosol samples
  • Training of laboratory personnel and laboratory quality control
  • We help you meet and comply with the Finnish government statutes 591/2006 and 202/2006 and other obligatory legal requirements and provide you documentation for communication with authorities
  • Partial or entire laboratory outsourcing from Labtium
  • Expert services relating to laboratory information systems
